This one year seminar examines in detail the issues for the therapist involved in establishing and maintaining a psychoanalytic role, listening to and containing many levels of communication, and evaluating when, what, and how to interpret. The therapist attends to the manifest and symbolic dimensions of the material and puts those together with the countertransference and other nonverbal communications. This material also emphasizes how the therapist works internally with toxic and threatening communications leading to helpful and empathic interpretation of transference, destructiveness, and regressive elements, thus promoting integration and growth.

Prerequisite: Psychotherapy 1
