Current research highlights the important developmental effects of relationship upon the infant’s sense of self, upon personality, and upon attachment. A healthy relationship enables the infant to adjust socially as well as to learn from experience. Disruption of this first relationship affects the child forever. Early intervention is prevention as well as treatment. This seminar will examine articles that focus on the relationship between mother and child. Discussion of clinical examples will enable clinicians to apply the readings to their work with adults as well as with mothers and infants.
Prerequisites: Infant Observation or permission of instructors. Open to all interested clinicians.
This is a required seminar for the Secure Beginnings Certificate Program in Parents and Infants, and the first term (6 sessions) is required by the Listening Mothers Group Leader Program.
